I’m an Internet Marketing Consultant and I’ve been designing and building websites and doing online marketing since 1996.
However, from 2013 to 2020 I stopped consulting and instead used Internet Marketing to build multiple multi-million pound companies in the renewable energy sector.
In January 2021 I decided to start consulting again, and on this website (and my new YouTube channel) I explain how I did it.
That’s the short version.
If you want the long version, here goes…
I started building websites for clients way back in 1996.
Prior to that I was a freelance programmer – so prior to building websites I didn’t really have much of a clue about marketing!
I suspect that’s the same for a lot of self-taught web designers.
My idea of a good website was one that looked ‘cool’.
I became an expert in creating very fancy looking ‘Flash’ websites, that had lots of animation and music and sound effects.
However, in 2003 I attended what was billed as ‘The World’s Most Expensive Marketing Seminar’.
That 5-day seminar cost me £35,000 (more than $44,000).
A crazy amount by anyone’s standards.
And yet… attending it was one of the best decisions I ever made!!
I discovered the concept of direct response marketing.
As a result, I went from creating flashy, snazzy websites that looked amazing but generated very few sales or enquiries — to instead creating websites that looked ‘simple’ but contained lots of interesting and useful information and generated tonnes and sales and enquiries for my clients.
The difference in results was staggering, and I gained a reputation for building websites which boosted my clients sales and profits.
Becoming an Author
As a result of all the things I achieved from 2003 onwards, in 2008 I decided to become an author and ended up publishing three books about Internet marketing…

As a result of my books and DVD training programmes, I was head-hunted by a seminar promotions company and asked to speak at their live events.
Public Speaking
I love travelling and (maybe because I live in the quiet Yorkshire countryside) love my ‘big city’ trips.
Which was just as well, because…

From 2008 to 2011 I spoke at various live events around the UK and found myself in London almost every fortnight.
During those three years I spoke live to more than 4,000 small business owners and entrepreneurs, and I even ended up putting on my own 1-day seminars and 3-day private workshops in London and Leeds.

However due to serious illness of a close relative, in 2011 I stopped public speaking and also stopped taking on new clients.
Ironically, in the same year a new business opportunity—which suited my personal circumstances at the time—reared its head… and within a few short years me and my business partner set up a handful of companies which made us ‘rather successful’. 😉
Part of our success was directly attributed to implementing the same online marketing tactics I’d been teaching other people all those years!
These days…
Although I’m busy helping my business partner run the companies we co-founded, I keep this internet marketing site bang up to date with fresh content and training, and details of the latest and greatest Internet Marketing strategies and tactics.
Out of Hours
In my spare time I enjoy reading business books, inspirational biographies and hard-boiled detective novels (Robert Crais books are awesome), dabble with a pen and a paintbrush, watch great films, and have fantastic holidays with my family, hopefully involving either skiing or scuba diving.
Whatever your reason for being on my site, I genuinely enjoy sharing what I’ve learnt on my Internet Marketing blog. I hope you find it useful.
All my best,

Ed Rivis
