What is an Authority Site?
This website is an example of an authority website. It was one of the key reasons why I was headhunted and asked to speak for one of the UK’s most well known business organisations, as well as being recognised as an industry expert among my own customers, clients and prospects.
One of the main reasons why this website produces results — and why it’s called an ‘authority site’ — is because as well as a place to promote my products and services it also contains lots of free information and advice, and is also updated with fresh articles on a regular basis.
When you write lots of articles about a particular subject, and make them freely available a your website, the natural assumption of people who visit it is that the author must be an expert. It’s basic human psychology. It’s powerful, and it can have huge benefits for you as a business owner.
Something that’s much less obvious about this website, is that behind the scenes it’s easy to manage and administer.
The authority sites we build for our clients are built on what’s called a Content Management System, or ‘CMS’ for short.
When you have a CMS website, you will be able to log-in securely (with a username and password) from anywhere in the World that has an Internet connection.
Once logged in you will be able to add, edit or delete pages on your website, write and publish blog posts, and upload video, audio and photos and illustrations.
What’s more, and this is one of the most liberating aspects of a CMS – you will be able to give other people secure access – with their own username and password (which you can specify for them.) That means other people can login and manage the site on your behalf, adding new content without you having to lift a finger!
